Israel's Messenger
The Official Organ of the Shanghai Zionist Federation was established by Nissim Ezra, a "Baghdadi" Jew in 1904. Ezra remained its publisher and editor till the last issue appearing in 1934.
Israel's Messenger was the world's first Zionist publication. Its goal was mainly to inform its readers of the activities of the Sephardic communities in China, Hong Kong, Manila, Singapore and also of other Jewish communities in China and, from time to to time, world news were also featured.
The publication opens a unique window on a fascinating period of life in China at the turn of the 20th century.
